June 16th, 2012: NEW PROJECT: THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY
Theodore Shapiro has signed to score upcoming remake of 1947 classic family adventure THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY. The original movie tells the story of a fictional writter who likes to imagine to be the hero of his own stories. His dream becomes true when he accidentally meets a mysterious woman who hands him a little black book. According to her, it contains the locations of the Dutch crown jewels hidden since World War II. Soon, Mitty finds himself in the middle of a confusing conspiracy and has to admit that being a hero in real life isn't that easy. The new version, which has been circulating over Hollywood for many years and was briefly attached to Steven Spielberg or Ron Howard finally ended with Ben Stiller who is not only directing the movie but also starring in the lead role. The movie co-stars Kristen Wiig, Shirley McLaine or Sean Penn is currently in production and will be released on Christmas 2013.

June 16th, 2012: NEW PROJECT: THE CAMPAIGN
Shortly after he had scored well-received HBO movie about the presidential election and Sarah Palin's campaign, Theodore Shapiro reunites with director Jay Roach again in more political arena, scoring director's upcoming comedy THE CAMPAIGN featuring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two rivals from North Carolina tagling against each other in presidential elections. The movie also stars John Lithgow, Dylan McDermott, Brian Cox and Day Aykroyd. Warner Bros. is releasing the movie on August 10. Theodore Shapiro is still working on his score, which is also quite sparse and therefore chances for its release are not very high. You can watch the trailer below.

Columbia Pictures will release new David Frankel's HOPE SPRINGS on August 10. April 18th, 2012: INTERVIEW: Avast ye Matey!
New interview with Theodore Shapiro was released today in latest issue of Film Score Monthly Online. You can read the article, where Theodore Shapiro discusses his score for THE PIRATES! here. The movie is opening in the US next week and the score album should be released around that time but nothing has been announced yet. Here is a little quote from the interview: "The story is about a very ragtag group of pirates. So the score is part swashbuckling pirate music, but part very falling apart at the seams. There is an element of color in the score, which is junky percussion and detuned guitars and concertina, stuff like that. And then a lot of that fits in with a very large orchestra doing exciting, swashbuckling-type material. The bad guy in the movie is Queen Victoria, so there's definitely a whole element of British music that's part of the score. Her theme is an evil version of "Rule Britannia." Then there are also some very English sea shanties that I've written. I had to educate myself in English music."

March 12th, 2012: SAMPLES: GAME CHANGE / THE PIRATES completed
New drama GAME CHANGE premiered last weekend on HBO and you can watch a little making of on Youtube. Coming next is GREAT HOPE SPRINGS (opening August 10) and THE PIRATES!: IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS. Theodore Shapiro recoded his score for The Pirates in January and the movie will be released on March 28th all over Europe, with US release date coming about one month later. Currently there is still no soundtrack album announced, but it is most likely coming. Stay tuned for more information coming soon.
